Once the plow is in the hand there is no turning back, Desire has set its course and you must guide its track. Nothing half-done can satisfy, Forsaking love for greater truth, Resolved to act while still wondering why; Time reveals that love was lust in its youth When the more true love arrives. Perseverance with desire through the trials of the heart, Will lead you through great fire To a greater sight than dreamed on your part. Breathing life into now-dead ideas we feed what we wish not. But if we turn and look away, in another trap we’re caught. Life must take new courses when its own are cut short, Blooming radiantly, harmonizing, giving the new path its support. Desire burns me deep without mercy, and I crucify it back each day. Wisdom prunes desire’s buds to feed real hope, and pull lust from its prey. The conflict is less bitter, sweet more— The hope I had to be taught I wanted Feels so good to be fighting for. Innate desire is by contrast so simple, Limited by the scope of self Red in tooth and claw, unafraid to cripple. Strength under control is the mark of great force, Power with restraint from time’s master Is able to marry desire to beauty it will never divorce.
