The Stallion

A new soul in a strange world, fenced in as a beast;
Fed micronized cereal grain concentrate with perfected sterile yeast.
Arranged a mate to rut with, barn doors keeping weather from me
But bait and bridle were bucked off, for the Stallion must ride free!

Mountains are made for mounting, their thin air for lengthening the climb,
Their wildfires for teaching a cool head, Wolfsmund pass for history's rhyme;
Yetis make unexpected blood brothers, while the dingos you learn to flee,
The trail trains manful horse-sense, thus the Stallion must ride free.

The frozen Gobi Desert sleeps you to Styx if you cease to move
But after the gulag's lessons on patience, life worth living you'll have passion to prove.
The taste of freedom is stronger than the miserly Dead Sea,
The swamp and sand to get there see why the Stallion must ride free.

Free flesh will fly at you, tant'lizing your imagination.
But Circe is a trojan horse, trafficking heroin-laced masturbation,
Unless love's spent as the present's investment your future's soul is the fee;
Master, else self-sabotage the way the Stallion must ride free.

A whirlwind string of broken hearts as long as the trail of tears
I've always left behind me -in order to keep climbing my fears-
Some were theirs and some were mine, all never meant to be;
The scars look good on a fighter, and the Stallion must ride free.

A compliment isn't a complement; pushing parasympathetic nerves
Tells the difference between how a solicitor and a helpmeet serves.
A mare can be a mighty asset, but more often a massive liability–
One is better than none when she loves that the Stallion must ride free.

Too much solitude dries one weak as a stick but be wary of congregation,
The call will come to geld you, to let safety rape your nation.
When the home you've pitched your tent in gets choked by conformity
Rage, rage, overcome that dark night, always the Stallion must ride free!

Liberty coercionlessly burns wealth and status, spreading generous to those who yearn;
Bless whippersnap younglings, strangers, bad neighbors in turn
With forests like where you once grew, trees whose shade you'll never see;
Green copper's the crown for whoso believes that the Stallion must ride free.

Those who cling to life live in fear of death, Skunk for the clicker-trained Fennec;
Like SCOBY, the adventure choosing you Instagram can't make photogenic.
Authentic living changes its container, it has more than appearances to be;
For better or worse this body's a cage from which the Stallion must ride free.
